I enjoy art and I would regularly visit the Grand to see art exhibitions. During the previews, I would look at, admire or be challenged by the artwork and meet different artists. The openings are quite convivial events, where you can enjoy a drink with your friends and get to know different people. I came to so many different exhibitions I can’t quite remember them all, but I always enjoyed them as I found it really interesting to see the different styles or viewpoints and be inspired by some beautiful or thought-provoking artwork.
Then I started working in the Marketing Department of The Swansea Grand Theatre and during that time I had the chance to see different types of shows that I hadn’t seen Live before such as musicals or the traditional pantomime.
I have a daughter and I’ve taken her a few times to watch different performances with me. She has experienced the theatre alongside me, in terms of going to see shows since I started working here.
It’s been great for her to grow with theatre and performance in her life and she knows where I work. She’s six and she always asks about my work. Even now during the pandemic, she has been asking when the theatre is going to reopen and when she can come and see the shows. I think some of those productions we went to see did influence her and opened her horizons.
The Grand is definitely one of the cultural epicenters of Swansea. It’s one of those cultural places that I would come to to see the art exhibitions or watch a show. It’s a place where I get to meet other people who have similar cultural interests. In my eyes, the Grand is a place that brings people together and is a major hive of culture in the city.
